Many item types on the PARCC tests require students to navigate technology. Skills such as drag & drop and text extraction and functions such as the Equation Editor and Systems of Equations are needed to successfully respond to questions.
The Maryland State Department of Education and PARCC test security protocols prohibit teachers from assisting students during examination. For example, if a student is unable to figure out how to enter a fraction in the Equation Editor, teachers cannot tell the student what button to click to allow a fraction response.
The Testing Office, in partnership with other organizations, has created short video tutorials that explain how to work these features.
